Father Sets Fire to His Home and Dies with His 2 Children, Leaves Note on Wall

A 45-year-old father on Saturday set fire to his apartment in Athens and died along with his two children after writing on the wall “I’m sick and tired of you all” with a marker.

The man and his two children were found dead in the hall while the bedroom was on fire in the ground floor apartment in the Athens neighborhood of Nea Smyrni.

The neighbors called the Fire Department after they saw smoke coming out of the ground apartment at 6 am.

Nine firefighters with three vehicles rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire in the bedroom after they found the man, an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old unconscious in the hall.

The two children were taken to the Agia Sofia Children’s Hospital and the father to the G. Gennimatas Hospital only for their deaths to be declared.

According to neighbors who spoke on Ant1 television, the man was divorced and he had psychological problems. He had lost custody of his children and he had them for the weekend.
