Government and political parties are united in the effort to determine the fate of missing persons, the President of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades said on Tuesday.
Speaking at an event, in the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, to commemorate the Day of Missing Persons, President Anastasiades attributed the lack of progress to the intransigent stance of Turkey over this matter.
He added that the Presidential Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, the Greek Cypriot member of the Committee on Missing Persons, and the relatives of missing persons, are coordinating action in order to bring about concrete results.
The President also said that after 43 years, Turkey remains intransigent and inhumane and continues to violate human rights, while disregarding the relevant judgments of the European Court of Human Rights and UN resolutions.
Moreover, he added that Turkey still conceals the locations where the missing have been buried and prevents investigations.
“The mass transfer [of remains] is nothing but the proof of the continuation of a crime that continues from 1974 until today” the President underlined.
