The 58 year old suspect in the murder of tax inspector Dora Zemberi; which took place in an Athens cemetery, on October 18, was attacked by an angry crowd outside an Athens court on Friday.

The crowd jeered when the suspect, led by police officers, approached the entrance of the court building. Some threw metallic objects and the police had to intervene to protect him by cordoning off the main entrance.

Among the crowd were close relatives of Dora; who also took part in the attack. The victim’s mother tried to stab the suspect with a pen, but failed.

The culprit has confessed to the crime that shocked the Greek public.

On Wednesday when he first appeared in front of a prosecutor, he claimed that the motive of his crime was to seal Dora’s mobile phone; which, according to police, has a street value of about 25 euros.
