“Our physical body is like a temple that we should cherish, honour and respect in all aspects mentally, emotionally, spiritually,” says Marilena Angelides, organiser of the upcoming Mind, Body and Spirit Festival.
“Our modern societies are so focused on external overstimulation that create environments that take us more and more away from our inner selves, the true core of who we are. It is important to reconnect, to find the way in, to realign to our true nature. This is the driving force behind the MBS festival and the reason for its existence!”
Running for the past 19 years, the ceaseless support for the MBS Festival shows that Cyprus takes wellbeing seriously, and rightfully so. On November 9 and 10, Filoxenia Conference Centre in Nicosia will host the latest edition of the festival and as Marilena explains, there is plenty to look forward to.
Among the yoga classes, vegetarian meals and marketplace to get your essential oils and crystals, the two days are filled with presentations and workshops. Spirituality won’t be the only thing on the agenda as MBS goes way beyond that to include insightful sessions to motivate visitors to attract whatever they want in life.
Some of the highlights Marilena mentions are the talks From Reaction to Creation by Matheo; Positive Dog Training by Stefanos; Create Your Own Financial Freedom by Irina and John; and Learn about Marma Science and Yoga by Gaurav Vohra from Indian Embassy in Cyprus.
Included in the weekend programme are some workshops that help develop valuable skills. Time and Stress Management by Xanthi is one of them, as is Myria’s Well-Being in Young People.
Numerology, energy maps and aura readings are some other sessions to follow at the festival yet MBS makes sure to include current topics that are sure to interest the masses, whether they are interested in spiritual talk or not. Savas Makrides’ talk on Sacrificing our Health in the name of technology – The 5G Experiment will dive into a much-talked-about subject. The emergence of 5G and its consequences on people is a highly debated matter and the engineer will share his insights.
What all these lectures will do for the mind, the outdoor activities and performances will do for the body and soul. Live music sessions, tribal fusion dancing and Tibetan bowl singing are but a few of the extra activities that will take place.
“Music is an invitation to engage with the flow of the moment and drift on that path into an inner journey. It is essential in my opinion to include music in a wellbeing festival as sound and music are very important and therapeutic for people’s lives. Through music vibrations and sounds, people experience a heart-opening and awakening on a deeper and inner level,” says Marilena.
As many may have noticed by now, Nicosia’s November festival isn’t the only MBS of the year. Two festivals take place each year, one in the capital city and the other in Limassol. Their differences?
“Mostly the mood of the people due to the differences in the seasons,” explains Marilena. “Spring is a rebirthing time for all and many international people from Cyprus and from abroad visit the MBS Wellbeing Festival in Limassol. Our festival takes place at St Raphael Resort, Limassol near the sea that gives a different sense to our visitors. The autumn festival has more local visitors and the feeling of a warm hug surrounding us during the weekend of the festival.”
But no matter which one you attend you are sure to gain something out of it. And you don’t need to be a kale-loving yogi to visit. The MBS Festivals are open to all and invite anyone to explore its activities and its rich agenda.
The only thing to remember is to wear comfortable clothes and to bring a yoga mat if you plan on taking any of the classes. Leave your troubles at the door and enjoy.
