A man who suffered a heart attack while working on a drilling platform off Cyprus on Wednesday was hospitalised at Nicosia general hospital on Thursday morning and is reported to be in stable condition.
The Larnaca Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) was alerted at 6.40pm that a crew member of a platform south of Cyprus, a 42-year-old British national, suffered serious health problems.
A search and rescue operation was immediately launched and a police helicopter was sent to the area with a specialised nurse who provided First Aid to the patient and kept him in a steady state.
However, due to the difficult weather conditions prevailing in the area, the helicopter was unable to take off from the platform for many hours.
When the weather finally allowed it, at 7.10am on Thursday morning, the helicopter transported the man to Nicosia hospital where doctors and nursing staff received him.
