The health ministry on Thursday announced that it would construct a new wing at the Makarios children’s hospital to house the accident and emergency (A&E) department.
The new, 1,000-square-metre wing will be named ‘Goal in Life’, in honour of the charity foundation bearing the same name that will co-fund the around €2.7m project, along with the health ministry.
Works are expected to start within 2019 and completed within 18 months from the start date.
The two-story wing “will meet all the required specifications so as to provide accommodation for the A&E for a better-quality service to patients of the Makarios Hospital,” the ministry said in a written statement.
Charity-voluntary association “Goal in life” was established by active and veteran footballers representing with the aim of financially assisting all socially vulnerable groups.
The group uses its influence with football fans to positively affect society by delivering messages of unity and volunteerism and organises events and initiatives to gather funds for charity.
