UNic residences will be the largest student hub in Cyprus and one of the most functional and complete hubs in Europe, with innovative architecture and modern aesthetics, enriching the modern campus of the University of Nicosia (UNic), the university’s CEO Antonis Polemitis said presenting the three modern UNIC-SIX, U and TRIANGLE complexes under construction at the open university amphitheatre.
During the presentation Polemitis stressed the significant contribution of Cypriot universities to the country’s economy. Studies by authoritative international firms show that the contribution of higher education over the last two decades to the economy of Cyprus amounted to €864 million, while at current growth rates, universities will have contributed €1.3 billion, or 6 per cent of the GDP of the Cypriot economy by 2023. “This dynamic of higher education is based on three dimensions: academic excellence, research work and student experience,” he said, pointing to the necessity of continuously upgrading these aspects within a competitive global environment.
The creation of the new residences is the result of an investment of €60 million, the largest investment ever in university infrastructure in Cyprus. The UNic residences consist of three buildings occupying an area of 40,000 square metres. With 858 modern studios, six restaurants and cafés, three gyms, a swimming pool, study and leisure areas, and six bungalows with private garden, and the UNic clubhouse on the 12th floor for exclusive use by members of the university community, UNic residences provide a unique housing experience, complete services and incomparable luxury.
“UNic residences is a challenging project, which employs a total of 500 people of all specialties and the construction of which proceeds in record time for Cyprus,” Polemitis said, thanking all the partners and contributors, cooperating credit institutions, the municipalities and the contractors involved in this effort.
UNic residences will welcome all students, graduates, lecturers, research and management staff at the University of Nicosia from autumn 2018, with the operation of SIX and U, followed by the operation of TRIANGLE in the autumn of 2019.
