President Anastasiades and Total CEO and chairman Patrick Pouyanné will discuss the company’s activities in Cyprus’ EEZ in Paris on Saturday evening.
According to a statement from the president’s office, the two will meet at 8pm Cyprus time, and the meeting will be attended by Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis and government spokesman Prodromos Prodromou.
Anastasiades was invited to Paris by French President Emmanuel Macron for a memorial celebration at the Pantheon for Simone Veil, the first female president of the European parliament.
The French energy company applied for acquisition of a stake in the block 8 licence in Cyprus’ EEZ. The licence is currently owned by Italy’s ENI.
Total along with ENI are partners in blocks 11 and 6. An exploratory drilling carried out in early 2017 in Calypso target revealed a “promising discovery” but no data have been disclosed yet concerning the size of the reservoir size.
On Thursday and Friday, Anastasiades attended the European Council summit in Brussels, where the heads of state and government, discussed migration, security and defence, financial affairs and Brexit.
