Police arrest man in road death of teenager

Police early on Friday arrested the 29-year-old man who collided with a scooter on Thursday causing the death of a teenager in Limassol.

According to Limassol traffic police officer Michalis Michael, both the racing car he was driving and the scooter were unregistered and modified. The young motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time.

The 17-year-old victim died after his scooter collided with the car on the Kantou-Episkopi road in  Limassol district at 6.20pm.

He was rushed to hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Police arriving on the scene found the scooter had been moved some distance from the site of the collision.

The 29-year-old driver of the car involved in the crash called an ambulance around 5.30pm.

He left the scene of the accident but shortly later he visited the Episkopi police station where he reported the incident.

More details regarding the accident are not yet known and police have called on the public to let them know if they have any information by contacting a police station or calling the citizens’ hotline.
