A man involved in a road collision that killed a five-year-old girl in Larnaca had been driving under the influence of drugs, police said on Tuesday.
The man, 34, who was arrested by police tested negative for alcohol but positive for drugs, the traffic police chief told state radio.
Maria-Christina Demetriou was killed on Monday afternoon after her family’s vehicle, driven by the father,36, was rammed from behind by a car driven by the 34-year-old.
The girl was ejected through the window of the pickup truck following the collision.
Her father reportedly stopped a car asking them to transfer him and his daughter to the Larnaca general hospital. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. In the car were also the 35-year-old mother and the family’s two other children, two boys aged four and nine.
The mother was diagnosed with multiple fractures to her arms and head injuries, while the four-year-old son was also seriously injured. Their condition was serious. The father and the family’s nine-year-old son were slightly injured.
