Controversial steel and aluminum tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump this week have been condemned by the Greek-American Chamber of Commerce.
In a statement, the trade body said it urged the American government to “reconsider the issue of customs duties and at the same time the EU to look at the matter with due attention and a balanced approach to any action taken.
“We are concerned about the impact that a continuous and growing trade dispute can have on transatlantic economic relations, especially in employment, investment and security.”
Stating that the EU presents no economic threat to the U.S., it called for a rethink on the tariffs which have also upset America’s close neighbors, Canada and Mexico.
“We stress that there are major risks to the world trade system in these measures. We, therefore, hope that both parties will work to reduce tensions immediately and work together to resolve the central issue of overproduction,” the Greek-American body added.
