Cyprus unaffected by Kellogg’s Honey Snacks recall

Cyprus is not one of the countries affected by Kellogg’s recall of 1.1 million boxes of its Honey Smacks cereal, a spokeswoman for the Cyprus Trading Corporation (CTC), which imports the product, said on Friday morning.

Kellogg company is voluntarily recalling the Honey Smacks across more than 30 US states over concerns about potential salmonella contamination after being alerted by US authorities.

However, the CTC spokeswoman said that Cyprus is not affected as the ones imported are from Europe and in no way connected to the batches from the USA.

Media reports quoted US authorities as saying preliminary evidence had linked the product to more than 60 cases of salmonella. Salmonella can cause serious illness or even death in rare cases.

The recall involves the 15.3 ounce and 23 ounce boxes of Honey Smacks cereal with best before dates of between 14 June 2018 and 14 June 2019, Kellogg’s said in a statement.

They are manufactured by a third-party manufacturer who is under investigation. No other Kellogg’s products are affected.
