Thousands of bicycle enthusiasts jumped on the saddle and took part in 25th Cycling Tour of Athens, organized by the Athens Municipality.
In two separate routes — the 13-kilometer race and the 3.5-kilometer race for children and people with disabilities, cyclists enjoyed the race passing through the city center to reach the finish line at Syntagma Square.
The Cycling Tour was followed by another race, the 1st Folding Challenge, that is devoted to folding bicycles.
Following the example of many European cities, Athens has developed a growing cycling culture with an increasing number of cyclists.
But, due to the economic crisis that has hit the country in the past years, funds need to be found to invest in the required infrastructure.
Congratulations @CityofAthens and @MBIKEcycling and a fun and well organized Athens City Ride! pic.twitter.com/isXZj0dTAh
