
On Tuesday and Wednesday, record temperatures of more than 42C were recorded, but on Thursday temperatures reached yet another new high for May, close to 43C. In Athienou 42.7C was measured, Kitas weather website reported.
The extremely hot weather is expected to last until Sunday.
Temperatures will again rise to around 40 or 41C inland on Friday, and the met office has issued a yellow alert for the third day in a row, which will be in force from 11am until 4pm.
Increased dust levels in the atmosphere will subside by the evening.
It is likely to be slightly cooler by Monday, but still temperatures are going to be much higher than is usual for early June.
