Fourteen top private clinics say they will operate outside Gesy

The private hospitals association (Pasin) on Monday announced that 14 of its members that have decided not to join the National Health Scheme (Gesy) are now part of the private medicine network.

In an announcement, Pasin said the network is an initiative by expert health professionals who have decided to continue practising medicine, “free and in autonomy, outside the proposed Gesy system”.

All Pasin members that joined this network, the announcement said, have done so independently.

They deemed that this best serves the goal of providing quality health services to Cypriot patients within viable terms, it said.

“Cypriot society acknowledges that private hospitals are the main support pillar of healthcare services in Cyprus, and it is for this reason they have been recognised by the public for their medical quality, immediate service and care,” it said.

The group said that the success of every national health scheme lies in proper planning and ensuring viable participation terms for healthcare providers, “something which, unfortunately, does not apply for Gesy, thus creating great uncertainty and concern to society over its implementation.”

Pasin said that it is still waiting from the Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) the data they had requested to answer the “reasonable questions of its members” about their sustainable participation in the system which would ensure that quality health services to patients could continue. Instead, it said, HIO continues to use public relation stunts.

“Unfortunately, promises concerning choosing doctors and hospitals seem to collapse because the HIO’s and Gesy plans do not allow distinguished health professionals and private hospitals to join Gesy,” it said.

So, to ensure the viability of hospital units and high-quality health services, Pasin said, a significant number of its members have chosen to join the private medicine network.

There are: the American Medical Center, Apollonion private hospital, Aretaeio Hospital, the Evangelistria medical centre, the Apostles Peter and Paul private hospital, Ayios Rafael private hospital, Leto private hospital, Timios Stavros private hospital,  Hippocrateon private hospital, Ayios Georgios obstetrics and gynaecology clinic, the Napa Olympic Private Hospital, Ygeia polyclinic, Pantheon ophthalmology centre and Ledra obstetrics and gynecology clinic.
