Sotira mayor sacrifices moustache to promote male cancer fight

Sotira mayor, George Takkas, had his moustache shaved off for the first time in 40 years to support the male anti-cancer campaign ‘Movember Cyprus’.

He was one of the men whose moustaches were shaved by professional barbers at an event at the Sotira town hall which lasted from 3pm until 7pm on Thursday.

“The effort to raise awareness about male cancer is very important. That’s why I decided literally at the last minute to shave my moustache after 40 years and participate in this very special event for raising awareness among men,” Takkas said.

All proceeds from the event will be donated to the non-profit organisation “Movember Cyprus”.

Movember is an annual event held each November to raise awareness over men’s health issues such as prostate cancer. Men are encouraged to grow a moustache for 30 days which is shaved off at the end of the month.
