Employees of the Nicosia sewerage board will stage a 24-hour warning strike on Wednesday in protest over the board’s outsourcing of work to the private sector.
“The organisation has invoked and exploited the economic crisis in recent years, and has outsourced work to the private sector in almost the entire range of its activities,” workers’ unions Peo and Sek said.
The unions added that the sewerage board refrained from repairing the specialised vehicles in its possession which serve to maintain drains, citing the high costs of such repairs due to the old age of the vehicles.
As a result, unions said, the board has outsourced these services to the private sector with enormous additional costs.
