Tourist arrivals rose in May by 7.6 per cent to 450,955 compared to the respective month of 2017 as secondary markets offset a decline in Russian visitors, the statistical service said on Monday.
Last month, the number of tourists from the UK rose an annual 3.8 per cent to 160,948 while that of tourists from Russia fell 7.9 per cent to 99,572, Cystat said. Arrivals from Germany and Greece rose 2.9 per cent to 21,679 and 13 per cent to 16,622 while those from Sweden and Israel fell 0.2 per cent to 20,341 and 3.7 per cent to 19,947 respectively.
The highest increase in arrivals was the 91 per cent to 12.521 from Poland, 56 per cent to 3,204 from Belgium and 55 per cent from Ukraine to 7,249, Cystat said.
In a separate statement, Cystat said the number of Cypriots who travelled abroad last month rose 1.7 per cent to 103,796 compared to a year before.
