The support of the EU will be sought to find ways and means to help farmers in Cyprus who are struggling with water shortages to prevent them from abandoning the sector, Agriculture Minister Costas Kadis said on Sunday.
On Monday Kadis will go to Luxemburg for a session of the Agriculture and Fisheries board of the EU.
According to a government announcement, “within the working of the board, Kadis will inform those present about the serious situation caused by a lack of water in Cyprus, which has led to water cuts for farmers on the island”.
The European ministers will also exchange ideas over changes to the Common Agricultural Policy of the EU for the period after 2020, with an emphasis on its funding and monitoring.
The workings of the meeting are expected to finish late in the evening on Monday, while Kadis will return to Cyprus on Tuesday.
