The Fire Service saved a 22-year-old man trapped in a 98-metre deep ravine in Kato Platres, authorities said on Tuesday.

According to the fire service, the man, a French tourist, was attempting to free-climb the ravine, near Mylomeris waterfall, and got stuck 38 metres up, due to rock slides.

Authorities received the call at 12:55pm, and initially firefighters from the Moniatis station arrived at the scene. A rescue team and a firetruck were then sent in to help them.

The rescue team then descended the ravine from above and saved the trapped man, authorities said.
