Air ambulance makes direct flight to airport in north

An air ambulance has made a direct flight from the north to Prague to take a sick Czech national home, ‘Foreign Minister’ Kudret Ozersay said on Sunday.

According to Turkish Cypriot media, a special request was made to operate the flight by the ‘civil aviation department’ and shortly after noon the Czech national boarded the small plane for a direct flight to Prague.

“We informed the Czech diplomatic mission in Cyprus of this development,” Ozersay said.

Turkish Cypriot press also wrote that the north is willing to co-operate with the international community on issues of health, missing or wanted people linked to international crime.

“Recognised or not, here there is a state that will react to all those we should, on any subject. Even if the steps are small, we are opening the road and this is what is important,” Ozersay added.

According to the Haber Kipris website British MP Iain Duncan Smith speaking at a Turkish Cypriot festival in Enfield, London said he supports the start of a campaign to collect signatures for direct flights to the occupied Tymbou airport, saying this would help the Turkish Cypriot community of England.
