Citizens will take to the streets yet again on Friday to protest against Climate Change.
The protest is organised by environmental movements to support the worldwide movement “Global Strikes for Climate Justice and to prevent Human Extinction”.
Cypriots will unite to support this global problem which is no longer a future threat but is happening right now all over the planet.
Demonstrators will gather outside the Supreme Court in Nicosia at 17:30. At 18:00 there will be a theatrical intervention there and then protesters will march to Eleftheria Square where there will be artistic and informative events taking place to raise awareness.
Organisers say that Cyprus is not complying with its international obligations and proclamations.
Targets set by the government do not meet those set by the Paris Agreement while Cyprus’ targets on renewable energy are below those of the EU while the replacement of fossil fuels by renewable sources in transport is not expected before 2030 instead of 2020 which was originally estimated.
Furthermore, organisers accuse the government of sacrificing environmentally sensitive areas.
The protest is being organised among other by:
Akti
The Cyprus Ecological Movement
Federation of Environmental Organisations of Cyprus
Natural Coast Rescue Initiative
The Friends of the Earth
Let’s Make Cyprus Green
Mothers Rise Up
Save Akamas / Save Cyprus
Tesura, Youth for Climate Cyprus
300,000 Trees in Nicosia
