Loizos Tzionis on Wednesday pleaded guilty to the double murder of school teacher Yiorgos Hadjigeorgiou and his wife Dina Sergiou at their Strovolos home in April last year, reversing a previous plea of innocent, the Cyprus news Agency reports.
It said that Tzionis’ lawyer has withdrawn from the case because he was not informed of his client’s intentions.
The sudden development came minutes Nicosia Criminal Court sentenced Lefteris Solomou to six years in prison for robbery and conspiracy.
Solomou is the second defendant to plead guilty to lesser charges and be jailed.
Tzionis’ former girlfriend Sarah Siams is currently serving a four year jail sentence for conspiracy to commit an offence.
