President Nicos Anastasiades will underline the need to accelerate the process regarding the formulation of the terms of reference for the resumption of Cyprus settlement talks during his upcoming meeting with UN envoy Jane Holl Lute.
The meeting is taking place on Sunday morning at the Presidential Palace. Lute will later meet separately with Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci, who dismissed a proposal by Anastasiades for a joint meeting with Lute.
Government sources told the Cyprus News Agency that Anastasiades is expected to reiterate his proposal for a joint meeting, underlining the need to accelerate the process for the formulation of the terms of reference to make it more productive.
CNA also said Anastasiades will repeat his previous proposal towards the Turkish Cypriot side to reply in writing on all issues included in the Guterres framework, which was unveiled during the 2017 Conference on Cyprus, in the Swiss resort of Crans Montana.
The same sources also said that during his meeting with the UN envoy the President will highlight the need for the terms of reference to cover all issues discussed at the negotiations, as per the Guterres framework, contrary to the insistence of the Turkish Cypriot side to focus only on the issue of political equality.
