Authorities in the north are seeking a man in connection with the brutal murder of a 45-year-old woman who was stabbed to death at a home where she worked, reports said on Thursday.
Fatih Cıkrıkcı is suspected of stabbing his ex-girlfriend Gulbahar Ulutan, 13 times on Wednesday morning at the house in Kioneli where she worked.
The mother of two was found in a pool of blood in the hallway and was rushed to hospital where she died, reports said.
The woman started shouting when she was attacked prompting the neighbours to come to her rescue.
The suspect allegedly fled the scene and is still being sought. Authorities published two photos of Cikrikci, seeking the public’s help.
Daily Yeni Duzen said a complaint had been lodged against the suspect for telephone harassment. Eyewitnesses told police the man had been watching the house for the past week.
Turkish Cypriot newspapers said there has been a rise in serious crime in the north.
Kibris said it was the second murder of a woman in 2018, with nine victims altogether so far. Last year saw eight people murdered, the paper said.
In the past 10 years, 58 people have been murdered – 19 women, three children and 36 men.
