A yellow alert was issued for Sunday with temperatures expected to hit 40C inland.
The alert is valid from 1pm to 4pm, the met office said.
Children, the elderly and other vulnerable people should remain indoors as much as possible.
Monday and Tuesday forecasts predict the temperature will rise further to between 41C and 42C.
